China Town

Had another field trip with my photography class...
We went to China Town which would have been great if it had been dark because there's a lot of cool neon down there. Not very happy with them... took a bunch of shots that didn't work. *laugh* Oh well... I learn more by making mistakes!! And I sure do make a lot of them.

Time to share. :)

Vegan Voice

Check it!
There's a article about me and a great review of LDV in the current issue of Vegan Voice. You can visit their site at www.Veganic.net They're based all the way down in Australia!! :)

In other news... THE RED IS DONE! I'm done with the red paint. No more red paint.

As a thank you for all my hard work... Gerry sent me to the Solana Day Spa for an afternoon of pampering. Whoo doggie... did I ever get pampered. I had a pedicure and a facial. The pedicure station even had a vibrating chair!! I forgot my camera so you don't get any photos of my face covered in pumpkin seed masque, but let me tell you... my skin has never looked better. :)

No more red paint!!

Still painting the upstairs studio... once I painted the walls I realized the ceiling needed to be painted and then Gerry (aka slave driver) came upstairs and thought one of the walls needed to be red (to match the downstairs studio)... so my work load doubled. Le Sigh.

Today will be the last coat of red and then I'm putting my foot down. NO MORE RED PAINT!! It takes wayyyy toooo many coats to get it red. Ugh. My arms are sore.

While I painted The Boys sat out front of the shop and watched the bike races. They weren't really interested in the race, but were watching for the crashes. :)I took a break and practiced some of the things I learned in photography class about film speed and action shots. Not bad for my first try... if I do say so myself. :)Then Fergus and I went to Thetis lake for a walk... I brought my camera but it was overcast and there wasn't much to take photos of... but I did find this lone wild rose just sitting in the middle of the forest.

Good Golly Dolly!

The Post Office Box has been very good to me lately...LOOK AT MY NEW PURSE from Dungaree Dolly's!

Designed and sewn by Ms.Dolly herself... this little purse carries EVERYTHING I need and hot damn... do I ever look good carrying it!!

Check out her website ... there are a TON of cutie-pie bags to choose from. Thanks Dolly!

Dolly also included some stickers and a little pocket mirror. Since I already have a pocket mirror from Sick on Sin... I thought I should share my Dolly Mirror with you.

Congrats to AMANDA for winning the pocket mirror! The next 5 e-mails after that will get a Dungaree Dolly sticker. Don't forget to include your mailing address. :)

SARAH!! Someone is here to see you!!

Yesterday Gerry called me up to the front of the shop because someone was there to see me. Who? ME?

This lovely couple Frank and ?? (Oh dear...I'm terrible with names) from NYC were in town visiting and they popped in to say hello.... not only did they say hello but they brought me presents!! Weeeeeeeee! Even Fergus got a present!! I had a very nice chat with them and they didn't seem to mind at all that I was covered in plaster and paint.

I then went back upstairs to finish painting the studio. Ugh. What a mess it is up there... but I'm almost done. Just one wall left to do and then I can move back downstairs to do the rest later.

As for why this painting is taking so long... we have over 2000 sq feet of space... our ceilings are at least 20 feet high and I'm just one tiny person who can only paint for a few days at a time before her back breaks. *laugh* So I'm doing the shop one room at a time... when I have time... and eventually I'll be done. *laugh* But as all you home owners know... the work is never done.

I'm also VERY excited because a VHS tape I ordered from The National Film Board arrived in the mail yesterday (Who watches VHS anymore?). This video is about Louis Reil and who's in this little video ?? Why none other then my Pops Ken Kramer.

Filmed in 1974 - Tales from a Prairie Drifter is a stage comedy about the Northwest Rebellion during the opening of the Canadian West. It highlights the roles of Louis Riel, the rebel leader, of Sir John A. Macdonald, the prime minister, and of General Middleton, who was sent to quell the uprising.

For this film, the play was performed by the Regina Globe Theatre before an audience of Indians and Métis, and their reactions were recorded.

I'm sooo excited to watch it. You can watch a little snippet of it HERE.

Mail mail and more mail...

I received a package in the mail yesterday from Susan ... who lovingly burned me a copy of Shut Up because it was stolen out of my car a few weeks back. So my guilty pleasure is back in my car and I couldn't be happier. Thank you so much!!!

In other mail news... I also received my tickets to see The Go-Go's at The Greek Theater in LA. I only wish Wendy and I had been able to get better seats... we're SO FAR back it makes me feel like crying. *Le sigh* Anyone out there know someone who can get me better seats?? I'll make it worth your while. :)

I ALSO got a yummy vegan chocolate bar in the mail from Danielle as a thanks for doing some interview questions with her. MAN! If only every interview person would pay me with sweets... are you listening Herbivore Magazine?? :)

Lastly... I mailed out all your Sick on Sin buttons ... so they should be arriving soon. But ... Um... They're not buttons like I thought. *blush* They were actually magnets... so please don't be mad. :)

I'm off to paint the tattoo shop today... will this painting ever end?

work. work. dirty socks and more work.

Wow. Nothing going on over here with me... just working, laundry and more working. Gerry taught me how to enter receipts into Quickbooks. Yay. That's exciting (She says with a sigh).

I did get yelled at the other day by some strange woman on the street. She yelled "LOVE YOUR BOOKS!" from across the road. That made me blush and laugh a little... you gotta love it when people yell nice things at you. :) We're gearing up for our big trip out east to Toronto, I am VERY excited about getting away and visiting with old friends.

Fergus is not so sure about it...but he's staying with the Grandparents... so we know he'll get spoiled rotten. :)

Look at this furbaby in his new Sick on Sin shirt. Toooo cute.

Congrats to everyone who e-mailed me in time to get free stuff. :)

Wash day...

I'm wet... Damn you! You washed me...
Must wipe myself dry...
Damn. Still wet...Must...wipe...self...dry...Ok. I'm still wet... now what?

Weeeeeeeeeeee!

Gerry and I had a very nice lazy day today. We walked the dog and let him wizz a little and then brought him back home, it is waaayyy tooooo hot out today for dogs. Then we walked to the art gallery to see the Western Academy of Photography graduating class exhibit. Really great photos, very inspiring.

Wandered around downtown a little and bought a new lens cap for my camera (I have NO idea where I lost the first one), had a little visit at The Zoo and then hit the new Mountain Equipment Co-op that just opened in Victoria. I found a killer bicycle helmet with a skull on it...so now I can ride my bike again. Weeeee!!
At what point is it silly for a woman my age to like skulls? I say never. I'll always be a pirate!! ARRRGGGH!! And yes... I'm wearing a scarf under my helmet. Some of you may wonder why... those of you with curly hair know why. Nuff said.

Then we wandered home. Said hello to the dog and I spent some time relaxing... For me that means cleaning! I cleaned the bathroom, the living room and the bedroom. Ahhhh. Feels great. Didn't take me long as our house is 617 sq feet. I have no idea how we both live in this tiny space... but we manage. :)

My Auntie Bonnie just popped by to say hello on her way to the dentist. My buddy Bettina is coming over tonight to watch ANTM. Now it's OPRAH TIME! By the way...when is that biatch going to have me on her show?? :)

Gonna put on the kettle and settle down with a cup of tea.
What a great day. :)

Beacon Hill Park

Haven't been blogging much... Gerry's been sick with a cold and I've been working at the shop a lot. Nothing that interesting going on I'm afraid... but that's ok. :)

Had my first school field trip last weekend. I was up at the crack of dawn to meet my class at 9am (that's early for me) and we walked around Beacon Hill Park and took photos.
Tonight during class a light bulb went off in my head and suddenly I understood EVERYTHING Mitch was saying. It was pretty great... :)

I think I like school... My next course is going to be Adobe Photoshop class, I'm stoked. :)

May update

Hey-lo
A few announcements.

TORONTO!
Gerry and I are coming to Toronto the first week in June and he is working at one of the local tattoo shops. So if you're interested in being tattoo'd then send him an e-mail, he still has a few spaces open on June 8th.

COOKBOOK STORE
While I'm in Toronto I am going to be doing a book signing at The Cookbook Store Saturday June 3rd at 2pm. New Moon Kitchen will be providing some yummy treats. This will be your ONLY chance to visit with me this trip as I'm in town for a wedding not for business, so I hope to see you there.

If you want to print out flyers and hand them out - you can download the pdf file HERE.

VERY IMPORTANT!
I am bursting at the seams with pride and excitement for my friends Teresa Pavlinek and Ralph Chapman who's sitcom The Jane Show will be premiering on Global June 1st at 9:30pm. Jane (the main character) is a vegetarian. *woot* You can read more about The Jane Show and Teresa HERE

So set your VCR's and please take a moment to send Global a letter after you watch the show. Canadian productions need as much audience support as possible and your writing a quick letter can make all the difference. http://www.canada.com/globaltv

G-O! G-O!
Lastly. My pal Wendy and I are going down to LA in July to see The Go-Go's play at The Greek Theater. Sadly we got REALLY CRAPPY seats. *le sigh* But I've never been to LA before and would love to hear where your fav places to eat and shop are.

That's it for me.
Check my blog for daily musing.
Check the chatboard for daily chit-chats with like minded vegans.

And check ya later.
xoxo

Less is more...

Less is more was our class assignment this week. It was really hard for some reason... I guess cause I love to fill up a frame with an image. I had a really tough time trying to find a subject that would only take up 1/3 of the frame and still be interesting, but it was good to stretch.

I've been feeling really frustrated with my class lately. It feels like the more I learn, the less I know. *laugh* But about halfway through class as Mitch was rattling off camera jargon, I realized that I knew a lot about what he was talking about... flash back to my first class and I sat there thinking it was all gibberish. So I'm getting there slowly.

I know I'm too hard on myself, I always have been, gotta learn to enjoy making mistakes because I learn so much more from them.

So here's my pics. What do you think??
This is me playing with depth of field again... so much fun.
And then of course there is this monster... I wake up to this face every day. :)In other news, I'm going to be sending out a GoVegan.net update in a few days so if you're not on the mailing list and want to be... send me an e-mail and I'll put you on the list.

Errands...

Had a busy but boring day yesterday running errands. The day ended nicely with a visit with my pal Wendy and her fur-baby Suzy. Wendy and I are planning our trip down to LA to see The Go-Go's and the dogs wrestled the ENTIRE time. Needless to say after all the pissing and sniffing a fun time was had by all.

In other news I've been driving around in a 4 door sedan that the "car fixing" place gave me until the smartcar window is fixed. I haven't driven a car with 4 doors EVER... it's a little scary. *laugh* I think I'm driving like an old woman, but it's not that the car is too long ... as compared to the smartcar.... I mean we had a truck for many years, so I'm used to the long. It's the wide. This car is SO WIDE! I feel like I'm floating around in a giant silver carpet or something.

I hope to get my smartie back today sometime.

Things for sale...

Have a few shop things for sale.

DO NOT E-MAIL!!
First come. First serve.
If you want these items call the shop to stake your claim. 250-361-1952

First is this Canon Powershot s-30 3.2 mega pixel camera. Comes with battery, battery charger, user manual and usb chord. It's a great little camera has a metal body and takes great photos. I've taken most of my Bettina photos with this camera. We'd like $150.
Next is this tall Ikea wardrobe (Gerry is 6 foot 3 but is slightly crouching like a retard for some reason). Obviously only people who are local can get this... as it is much to large to mail. :) We'd like $75 and you'll have to come pick it up at The Shop as soon as possible.
We also have 2 matching - 3 drawer dressers. We'd like $25 for those. As you can see we have them stacked one on top of each other... but they are 2 seperate units.
DO NOT E-MAIL!!

BEEP part 2

Thank you all who posted about the Beep Juice Drink. I wish I could see what the old packaging looked like. Anyone have a photo or a carton of it in their basement?? :)

Now... who out there wants to send me a carton of Beep? I'm dying to taste it again... even though I remember it tasted like orange pop and dust mixed into one. Damn all this talk of 1% real juice has got me thirsty.

E-mail me if you can get me the goods.

Shut up!

Lame. Our car was broken into tonight...and we have secure parking in this building. Yikes. They bent the door frame with something (I guess to try and unlock it) and the glass exploded. It went EVERYWHERE! There was glass 6 feet away from the car. Crazy.
They took a few things that are hopefully covered by insurance but luckily they didn't take Fergus's favourite ball or Gerry's new motorcycle helmet (weird). They also cleaned out my ashtray of about $10 in parking money but left my chewing-gum (thank you).
They also took my cd case with the cherries on the front that I bought at Target the last time I was in the states. Boo hoo. I love that case...

In a weird twist of psychic luck I had spent 10 minutes today cleaning out my cd case and removing all the cd's that weren't burned and luckily taking inside my hard to find Jane Wiedlin FUR cd, so all the bad-guys got was a VERY cute cd case full of cdr's.

Sadly one of those cdr-s was my illegally downloaded copy of Kelly Osbourne's SHUT UP. Like I'm going to bother illegally downloading that again... but I love that cd... it's so fun to drive to. Anyone unashamed enough to admit that they own it and want to burn me a copy?? :)

Beep

Does anyone remember "BEEP drink"?

I drank it at track meets and birthday parties when I was in grade school. I think it may be a Saskatchwan thing... but does anyone else remember it?? It came in a white "milk" type carton with orange writing...I think the packaging boasted that it was 10% real juice. *laugh*

Anyone?
I can't find any info about it on the interweb.

ADDED LATER:
In my quest to find info on BEEP I found this page. Brilliant!

Perfect day off...

Had a fantastic day off yesterday with my Lovah. We ran a few errands for the shop...Anyone who owns their own business will tell you there is no such thing as a day off... and then we it Thetis Lake for a hike. It's the perfect time of year for Thetis. Warm, but not too warm and it's still early enough in the season that there is almost nobody out there. While we were trotting around we saw a vole. Fergus was VERY interested ... Gerry had to climb into the mud and carry Fergus away so the vole wouldn't become lunch. :)

And speaking of lunch...After a healthy hike around the lake, what's better then a veggie burger at Harvey's??It was a white trash food kind of day because Gerry made dinner. Mac & Cheese with hotdogs and a light layer of potato chips on top. He also threw in some broccoli to make me happy...Woke up this morning and made my Lovah-boy a nice breakfast... Apple Pie Pancakes, soy yogurt, veggie sausage... mmmmmmmmmm. What a way to start the day.
It's 11:15 and I still have my pajamas on. *woot* I love days off.
